The Canada We Want

The Canada We Want – Wake Up Canada

Calgary, Alberta – Saturday, November 2, at 13 Avenue & Macleod Trail will be a rally to coincide with the Conservative Policy Convention followed by a Workshop with Brigette DePape at CommunityWise Resource Centre, 223 12 Avenue SW. Several organizations and concerned Canadians will be gathering to stand together in solidarity to demonstrate the current government does not represent the people.

Crash The Party: A Rally to Protest Conservative Attacks on Canada is a joint-initiative from various progressive organizations across Canada. Speakers include Sheelah McLean (Idle No More co-founder), Clayton Thomas-Muller (writer and advocate on Indigenous rights, environmental and economic justice), Robyn Benson (Public Service Alliance of Canada national president), Gil McGowan (Alberta Federation of Labour president), and more.

Brigette DePape will be presenting a Creative Action Workshop in partnership with Shit Harper Did. This workshop will be open to the public and aims to empower youth to be proactive in their own futures.

The Canada We Want – Wake Up Canada, is a three-day summit bringing together a coalition of Canadians advocating for democracy, the Environment, Aboriginal Treaty Rights, Union, and Human Rights. The majority of Canadians value Human Rights, we care about people who are suffering, we voice our opposition to injustice, and we give millions in world aid. This is no different – it’s just closer to home. This is our country, our children’s future at risk.

The Conservative Party of Canada will be holding their National Convention. While this convention is going on, this coalition of Canadians will not be silent, waiting for others to make decisions affecting our lives. We will have information booths, presentations, rallies, demonstrations, entertainment, panels, teach-ins, activities and thought-provoking conversations. In keeping with the Indigenous traditions of inclusiveness, we are sharing knowledge to create change peacefully.

We genuinely believe that the vast majority of Canadians know that our cause is just and that when properly educated on these issues, they will make their voices heard, either in public or in the voting polls. This event is to do precisely that.

Please join us.
